Welcome to the web site of Ruth Bernard.
Ms. Bernard's work has been compared to that of Chaim Soutine. She believes her work reflects a world "out of control". Therefore,  her spaces twist and turn; even the most peaceful, pastoral scene  is riddled with turmoil. The textural surface is built up through  the process of painting and projects the "soupy mess" of our times. Sweeping masses of paint evoke sweeping moods, an effect which is  heightened through juxtaposition of values, light and darks and colors intense. Hard looking that informs reinterpretation of dimensional form and space and, of course, painting en plein air  are the flesh and blood of her painting.

A New Start- Landscapes
May 24 - June 18
Reception: Thursday, May 26, 5-8pm
As the name indicates the work represents a new look at the landscape. All the work began as a result of the acquisition of a painting van which allows me to paint the landscape in a verity of new environments and weather contusions.
